When a tilt is applied to the sensor, the suspended mass creates a potential difference, which is measured by a change in capacitance. This signal is then amplified to produce a stable digital output signal. The obvious advantage is that the measurement is very accurate. MEMS tilt sensors are low cost, robust, virtually immune to shock loads, and have very good long-term stability. A dual-axis tilt sensor consists of two MEMS sensors at 90? to each other for vertical tilt measurement.
